MANETTE, Albert William
Age 82, of West Chezzetcook, died at home on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 surrounded by family. He was a devoted husband to Nola (Roma), his wife of 61 years, and a proud father to his children, Janet Forsyth (Mark), Wanda Firth (Ian) and Brad (Kim Gourley). Grampy will be forever missed by Sara, Samantha (Cory Austin), Jillian (Dmitry Ilyushkin), Hannah (Alex Scott), Ben (Erin Welsh) and Mitchell. Family always came first with Albert. We have a lifetime of memories from travelling, magical Christmases, celebrating birthdays, and many fun times including camping in the summer and skidooing in the winter. Albert was a man of patience with great attention to detail, excelling in everything he put his hand to, from restoring his antique panel truck and Cub tractor, to his carpentry work and putting up his Christmas lights. He could paint a room in a flash without spilling a drop. His children knew Dad could do anything and that he was a very loving, selfless and caring man. He would stop whatever he was doing to come to their aid, whether fixing a broken-down car or rocking a baby to sleep. Albert demonstrated his love for family and friends through his famous hugs and beautiful smiles that would light up a room. He always kissed us good-night and told us he loved us every day. Albert was a longtime employee at J. Bert Macdonald & Sons. He was also selfemployed for a while and built many cupboards in his community and covered many roofs, which he enjoyed pointing out to us along the Halifax skyline. Albert enjoyed many activities such as his weekly bowling, annual antique car and truck shows, and supporting L’acadie de Chezzetcook and parish functions. His passion for cars started at a young age and he quickly developed an encyclopedic knowledge of many makes and models. He was a son of William and Ammie Manette. He was predeceased by brothers, Jackie and Gerald; sisters, Theresa Hatch, Thelma Askew (Harold); sister-in-law, Marie Manette, and brothers-in-law, Harvey Lapierre and Bob Grey. Albert is survived by his brother, Frank; sisters, Mickey Lapierre, Marion Grey and Dianne Warner (Vic); sisterin-law, Shirley Manette; brotherin-law, Raymond Roma (Linda); sister-in-law, June Julian; nieces, nephews and a host of long-time friends. Arrangements are entrusted to the care and directions of Rowlings Funeral Home. Following a private family mass, a burial ceremony will take place at St. Anselm’s Cemetery, Highway 207, West Chezzetcook at 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 8th and all are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please wash your car, check your oil and drive carefully.
