Age 87 years, of Amherst, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26, 2020 in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Born in Rogers Hill, Pictou Co., he was the son of the late James and Effie (Forbes) Rae. Forbes grew up in River John, Pictou Co., where he received his early education. He was a graduate of the Nova Scotia Teachers College and Mount Allison University. He later went on to become Guidance Counselor and became director of guidance at River Hebert District High School. Forbes was then appointed principal of both River Hebert District High and River Hebert Elementary Schools. He was awarded the Dora Baker scholarshi­p in 1960-1961 which was made to a teacher who showed scholastic eagerness and classroom adequacy as well as community interest and skill in pupil-parent teacher relations. Forbes was a member of the River Hebert Curling Club and was made a Honorary Life Member of the club. He enjoyed his summers at the cottage in Minudie. Forbes was a faithful member of River Hebert United Church and its choir. Forbes is survived by his wife, Shirley (Burbine); sister, Beth King of Oshawa; brotherin-law, David Graham, Westville; as well as nieces and nephews; and special aunt, Lina Forbes. Besides his parents, he was predecease­d by his sisters, Vivian Boehk, Heather Graham; brother-in-law, Robert Boehk. Arrangemen­ts are under the care and direction of Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church St., Amherst (902-667-8777). A funeral service will be held in the Funeral Home today, Monday, July 6th at 2 p.m. Please respect the family and other attendees by wearing a mask. Burial will take place in King Seaman Lakeside Cemetery, Minudie. Should friends desire, memorial contributi­ons may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
