BEED (Sertich), Katherine Helen
1939 - 2020. It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of our guiding light, Katherine Helen Beed, in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst, on Wednesday, November 25th at the age of 81. "Mum" was born and raised in Springhill to immigrant parents, Helen (Tichak) and Stephen Sertich, from whom her strong moral compass and work ethic were engrained. Mum graduated from Highland View Regional Hospital nursing school in 1960 and went on to a full nursing career, retiring as a nursing manager in 1994. Following retirement, and as a true sun worshipper, Mum enjoyed summers at the cottage and winters down south reading one of her many books. The pride and joy of mum’s life was her family, to whom she was loving and loyal to like no other. Katherine is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Reginald; sons, Jeffrey (Bernice) of Moncton; and Scott (Sherri) of Amherst. Nanny was the most proud of her grandchildren and enjoyed following their events and life experiences. Her life legacy lives on through Kiersten, Tyson, Burke and Lauren. Our family would like to sincerely thank Amy Thurston and the palliative care team at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre as well as VON Cumberland for their kindness and compassion during Mum’s illness. Due to pandemic restrictions, a private family visitation and celebration of life will take place on Monday, November 30th from Campbell’s Funeral Home, Amherst, ( 902) 6679906. Interment will follow in St. Charles-nativity Cemetery in Amherst. We kindly ask that all COVID-19 guidelines including masks and physical distancing, be observed while visiting our location. Memorial contributions in Mum’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences and sharing of memories can be forwarded to the family via: www.campbellsamherst.ca or by visiting the funeral home Facebook page.
