MCCULLOCH, Norma Alice

-

Age 91 of Halifax passed away peacefully in Northwood Long Term Care Facility on November 26, 2020. Many thanks to those caregivers on the fifth and first floors. Born in Montreal, Que., she was the daughter of the late Norman and Ethel (Lougheed) Mcculloch. Norma moved to Halifax in 1939, where she met her longtime best friend, Grace Mont (Avery). Norma had a sense of adventure and independence. She took a job in 1950 with the United States Air Force, stationed in Goose Bay, N.L. That decision led to work at the Pentagon VA, San Diego and San Francisco, Calif., before returning to Canada where she was employed for 43 years at Reid Sweet Ltd, eventually becoming Treasurer. This is where her love for photography was born, and she was never without her 35mm camera. Norma was a proud member of Beta Sigma Phi (Master Alpha Chapter) since 1956. She developed many lifetime friendships with her sorority sisters. The Red Cross Corps was important to Norma. She volunteered for several years, at times welcoming war brides and children at Pier 21. Squid Cove, Chester held a special place in Norma’s heart. She spent many summers at her cottage on the ocean surrounded by great friends, neighbours and family. Norma’s childhood friendship with Grace, eventually grew to include her husband Kingsley and the entire Mont family. She was lovingly known as "Auntie Norma" to all their children and grandchildren. She will be missed. Cremation has taken place under the care of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. There is a poem by Robert N. Test that Norma liked. A few lines really capture the essence of Norma’s spirit.

"If you must bury something let it be my faults, my weaknesses and all prejudice against my fellow man. Give my sins to the devil. Give my soul to God. If by chance, you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs it. If you do all I have asked I will live forever".
