RANGASWAMY (Das), Suprobha "Prabha"

-

Our beautiful mother passed away peacefully on November 30, 2020, at the age of 81. Prabha spoke of her wonderful childhood in Hyderabad, India, with her loving parents, Sundari Das and B.K. Das, both of whom predeceased her before her marriage. Prabha attained her B.A Hons in Literature and Economics in Hyderabad. She married Parameshwar "Sam" Rangaswamy (1929-2013), in 1961 in Hyderabad. In 1963, she and Sam, with their infant son, Satish, travelled from the only home she knew to Halifax, this strange and foreign place where Sam commenced work as a professor of Engineering at what was then Nova Scotia Technical College (Tech). They soon welcomed their daughter Kamala, and the four of them planted roots firmly in the soil of Nova Scotia. Prabha diligently cared for her children while being an encouraging and supportive wife to her husband. Raising her children was her greatest joy and accomplishment even while working for the Nova Scotia Department of Health for almost 20 years. As a young mother, Prabha was an active member of the Tech Faculty Wives Club and enjoyed organizing events for them. Prabha loved gardening, sewing and cooking. Her grandchildren always looked forward to the culinary feast she would prepare for them. She won the Kellogg’s Cooking Contest in 1970 and was thrilled to travel to Nassau, Bahamas with her whole family as the first prize winner! She loved trivia, and was a devoted "Jeopardy!" fan. She was loved by her neighbours and many friends. She is survived by her loving son, Satish (Diane); devoted daughter, Kamala; and her precious grandchildren, Daniel, Alana and Logan. Cremation has taken place. A service will be arranged at a later date. Expressions of condolence may be left with Cole Harbour Funeral Home and Crematorium, Cole Harbour. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Lung Association or charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
