SCHIEFER, Douglas

-

It is with deep sadness and much love that we announce the passing of Douglas Schiefer, age 78, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. We take comfort in the fact that his wife of 57 years and his loving family were at his bedside. Born May 19, 1942, in Springhill, he was predeceased by his parents, Florian and Alberta (Pepperdine); his sister, Elizabeth (Doug) Carter; and a brother in infancy. He is survived by his wife, Sharon ( Sherrif ); sons, Douglas (Jean), Daniel (Gloria); and his daughter, Shelley. "Poppy" will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Faith ( Justin), Nathan, Bobby ( Jessica), James and Dryden. He is also survived by his brother, Lorne; and many nieces and nephews. Doug was the owner of Schiefer’s Garage for over 60 years, as well as a general contractor and a school bus owner. He was hard working, active, and had a passion for the outdoors shown by his gardening, camping and fishing trips. He also had an artistic flair which was reflected in his paintings, carvings and wood working. Anyone who knew Doug would be impressed by his knowledge of the community and how he loved to tell a good story. Cremation has taken place under the supervision of A.H. Brown Funeral Service, 5 Mcfarlane St., Springhill (902- 5972361). Due to restrictions from COVID-19, there will be no funeral service at this time. A graveside committal will take place at a later date to be announced. The family wishes to thank the paramedics, Dr. Sauveur and the second floor nurses and staff of All Saints Hospital for their compassionate care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Doug may be made to the L.A. Animal Shelter or a charity of your choice. Sharing of memories and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting Doug’s online memorial at:
