WHAT’S THE OCCASION?

When whether sharing it's with the your good family cheer or close this friends holiday within season, your personal bubble, remember being a good host is being a responsibl­e one. Make sure to have water and alcoholfre­e drinks available and be sure to serve snacks. While salty or greasy foods might feel like a natural pairing, they can make guests thirsty. Satisfy your guests hunger and encourage moderation with high protein snacks.

5 PROTEIN RICH INGREDIENT­S FOR HOLIDAY SNACKS

1. Eggs

Eggs deliver on average approximat­ely seven grams of protein per egg. Consider setting out a platter of deviled eggs as an early evening appetizer.

A four ounce breast serves up approximat­ely 35 grams of protein. Fill prepackage­d phyllo shells with cubes of chicken, rosemary and brie for a festive, but filling holiday hors d'oeuvres.

4. Grains

Grains such as quinoa are not only high in protein (17.75 grams per 100 gram serving) and fibre, but according to healthline.com, also “particular­ly high in magnesium and potassium” which also have positive benefits.

5. Almonds

Nuts in general have a high amount of protein. Almonds register over 21 grams per 100 gram serving. Peanuts are even higher at over 25 grams per 100 gram serving.

Smoked Salmon Devilled Eggs

Makes 12

Prep Time: Less than 30 minutes Total Time: Less than 30 minutes

6 eggs

1/3 cup chive whipped cream cheese

2 tbsp mayonnaise

1 tbsp chopped dill, plus more for garnish

Salt and pepper

2 oz smoked salmon, in pieces

Directions: Place eggs in a saucepan and cover with 1 to 2 inches of water. Bring to a rolling boil. Turn off the heat, cover and let sit for 12 minutes. Drain and run under cold water. Peel the eggs then slice into half lengthwise. Remove the yolks and place in a small food processor or an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Beat the yolks with the cream cheese, mayonnaise and dill until smooth. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Spoon or pipe the mixture into the whites. Top with pieces of smoked salmon and a sprig of dill.
