BARKHOUSE, Helen Armstrong

-

Age 77, Truro, passed away at her home in Truro on December 15, 2020 surrounded by her husband, Harold, and daughters, Sandra, Eileen and Dale. Helen was born in Glasgow, Scotland on January 7, 1943. She was predeceased by her father, John Rorrison; and her mother, Sissy (Elizabeth) Rorrison. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Harold; daughters, Sandra ( Jamie) McIsaac, Eileen (Jordan) Mackenzie and Dale Sachs (Charles Griffin); grandchildren, Jared and Jordan Mcisaac, Michael, Morgan and Rylan Sachs and Taylor and Brandon Mackenzie; sisters, Barbara (Douglas) Herring and Elizabeth Hanton; as well as many nieces and nephews. Helen was a school teacher for many years in Truro and surrounding areas. She always impressed people with her immense knowledge of facts and was often called upon by neighbours and friends to solve their trivia disputes. She will always be our Jeopardy champion. She was also an avid bridge player and had a lon-time partner in Judy Rose and, as well, played many hands with neighbour, Janet Fleury. Helen also had a passion for doing water colour painting. She enjoyed going to classes and learning the art of painting and, as Doc. Livingston always commented, she was always the best in her class even though she felt her paintings were not that great. Helen always put everyone else first and even in her final days, stated to the doctor and nurses that there were others out there that could use the care more than she. Helen touched the hearts of many individuals along her journey in life and will be remembered fondly by all. Many thanks to her family doctor, Dr. Ellis, the palliative care team of Dr. Courtney Smith and nurse, Angela Mcdonnell, Dr. Rowe and the many VON nurses who cared for her in her last days. Thank you to all Helen’s friends and family that came to see her in her final days and brought all the lovely food items. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society Nova Scotia Division, 5826 South St., Halifax, NS B3H 9Z9, or a charity of choice. A Graveside Service will be held in Bible Hill Cemetery in the Spring of 2021 (to be announced). Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro.
