BRAVAKIS, George

-

Age 63, George passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 16, 2020 after a short, but courageous battle with cancer, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born in Sykea, Laconia, Greece, he came to Canada in 1975 where he started his career in the restaurant business. For 47 years, people in HRM have enjoyed his cooking. From John’s Lunch to Johnny’s Snack Bar, and then finally to Jim’s Family Restaurant, where he spent the last 28 years doing what he loved to do, cooking for his customers. His love of cooking extended beyond the restaurant so much that Tuesdays began to be known as "BBQ Tuesday" to his family and friends. Never a dull moment with George around, for he was the life of the party. Singing and dancing to his heart’s content, and if you were lucky, you may even witness the famous "Dollar bills shower". He was predeceased by his parents, Anastasios and Despina (Stappas) Bravakis; and his brother-inlaw, Stamatis Kalogeras. He is survived by sisters, Georgia ( John Fasoulis), Halifax; and Anna (Stamatis Kalogeras), Aggelona, Greece; and his six nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place Monday, December 21st between 6-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Funeral will take place Tuesday, December 22nd at 1 p.m. in St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church, 1146 Purcells Cove Rd., Father Panagiotis Marapoulos officiating. COVID-19 restrictions are in place. The family would like to thank the staff of the 7th floor palliative care at the VG Site for their care and support, in making George’s last days comfortable. Donations can be made to St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church, Halifax. Online condolences may be made by visiting the Halifax chapel at:
