September 25, 1932 - December 16, 2020 Roy T. Church, formerly of Halifax, passed away in St. Patrick’s Mercy Home on December 16, 2020, at the age of 88 years. He leaves to mourn, his wife, Jennie (Parsons); daughters, Sharon (Nigel Facey), Heather ( Terry Matthews), Arlene (Rob Forbes); and their mother, Helen Wamboldt; grandchild­ren, Jennifer (Chris Rideout), Christine Facey (Mike Lumley), Mike Matthews, Karen ( Ryan Taylor), Alicia ( Kevin Procter), Victoria Forbes (Garreth Tanner), Jordan Forbes ( Beckie Luddington); greatgrand­children, Sadie and Grace Rideout, Ava, Madelyn and Reid Taylor, and Violet Procter. Roy is also survived by brothers, David (Lynne Mackay), Paul (Judy, deceased); as well as several nieces and nephews; along with stepfamily, Helen ( Ray Monnier), Wayne (Cindy) Parsons, Beverley (Tim Martin), Glen (Michele) Parsons, Charmaine (Craig Warren), Melanie Graham (Arlen Peterson) and their families. Roy was predecease­d by his parents, Ernest and Winnifred (Lewis) Church (of Cardiff, Wales/birmingham, England); his second wife, Joan ( Dalling) Church; brother, Lewis and wife Claudia; and sister, Iris and husband Albert Foote. Roy was employed with H.H. Marshall Ltd. for 43 years. He was quite active in many church groups including choirs for about 75 years. He was in the Sea Cadet program for 35 years and served as Treasurer/ President of the Canadian Square and Round Dance Society for 22 years. His other activities: Registrar of Young People’s Union, United Church of Canada; Founding Board Member of the Canadian Associatio­n of Retired Persons (22 years); Volunteer with the Canadian Red Cross and Diabetes Canada and was awarded Volunteer of the Year for the latter two as well as receiving many other awards/ recognitio­n for his volunteer efforts. Special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital - 7East, as well as St. Patrick’s Mercy Home 1 South. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Cremation has taken place. Interment to take place at a later date in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Merigomish.
