MACEACHERN, Ian Daniel

Age 63, Truro, passed away as a result of chronic health issues, on Thursday, December 17, 2020, at home. Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Daniel and Anna ( Buchanan) Maceachern. Ian worked at GE Canada in Alberta for many years before returning home to Nova Scotia. He enjoyed many years spent doing volunteer work with Canadian Red Cross. Many will remember his great ability of telling stories and his unique sense of humour; we will miss him. Ian is survived by his sisters, Lynn Layes, Halifax; Louise (Brian) Gillis, Abercrombi­e; nieces and nephews, Jonathan (Audrey) Layes, Dartmouth; Ellen (Terry) Kostlac, Halifax; Natalie (Tyler) Ross, Sutherland’s River; Ashley (James) Rathbun, Toronto; Erin Gillis (Brent Turnbull), Grande Prairie, Alta. Along with his parents, he was predecease­d by his brother, David; brother-in-law, André Layes. Special thanks to his neighbour, Francesmor­rison, for her friendship and kindness over the years. Arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to Mattatall - Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro, where Ian’s family will receive friends from 2- 5 p. m. Tuesday, December 22nd (please use the front doors of the funeral home, register your name and phone number and practice physical distancing; your co- operation and understand­ing is appreciate­d!) Interment at a later date in St. James United Church Cemetery, Antigonish. If so desired, donations in Ian’s memory to Canadian Red Cross or a charity of choice are welcomed.
