-

November 22, 1939 - December 15, 2020. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Vincent Arthur Mcsweeney, age 81 on December 15th. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Ola (Shatford) Tanner and Arthur Mcsweeney. Vincent was a proud and ardent member of the Halifax Longshoremans Association, Local 269 from 1965-2002, working after retirement until the age of 79. His childhood was spent with his grandmother and grandfather, Edward and Eunice Mcsweeney, in Halifax’s South End on Thompson Court moving to the North End of Halifax as a young man where his roots ran deep until the end. He was a huge sports enthusiast his entire life. He played football in his younger years for the Halifax Buccaneers and softball for the I.L.A. softball team. When not working, Vince could often be found at his local watering hole, enjoying drinks and sharing stories with friends. Dad was a huge animal lover and spent his retirement collecting bottles to donate to the dockyard cats. He is survived by his son, Duanemcsweeney (Kimmartin); daughter, Paula Mcsweeney; grandchildren, Rachel, Josephine and Roman Mcsweeney; sisters, Gail Macdonald (Coleman), Joyce (Philip) Hogue; brother, Percy (Shirley) Tanner. Vince was preceded by his one true love, wife, Gail (Streeter) Mcsweeney; and brother, Ross Macdonald. Interment will take place in St. John’s Cemetery, and a celebration of life, at a later date.
