Age 83, passed away on December 23, 2020 in Parkstone Enchanced Care, Halifax. Born in Toronto, Ont., he was the son of the late ( Mary) Helen Duncan (Cross) and David George Whyte. He is survived, and will be sadly missed, by his wife, Doreen Whyte, Lower Ship Harbour; brother, Donald "Donnie" Whyte (Sharon), Beaver Bank; his stepson, Stephen Parsons (Alice), Halifax; grandchild­ren, Daniel and Rebecca; nephew, David and niece, Wendy. He is survived by daughters, Cindy, Penny; and son, Justin. He was predecease­d by his stepfather, John Duncan. He started his career in the sheet metal trade and operated a heating supply business for several years in the GTA. He later became a Building Inspector for the city of Mississaug­a, Ont., before relocating to Nova Scotia in the late 1970’s. Over the years he developed an extensive knowledge of the constructi­on industry and spent most of his later career supervisin­g and managing various real estate and constructi­on projects before settling in to work with the Halifax Regional Municipali­ty (HRM). He was employed with HRM as a By-law Enforcemen­t Officer until his retirement in 2002. Always there to help friends and family with any type of building, renovation or repair he had a never-ending source of energy that was hard to match. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed creating various crafts with his wife Doreen. They frequented many craft shows in HRM and along the Eastern Shore during their retirement and their Christmas crafts were a highlight of the year. He was passionate about the outdoors and loved spending time cutting firewood wood and maintainin­g their property in Ship Harbour. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff on Seton Way, Parkstone Enhanced Care in Halifax for their compassion­ate care and friendship over the last six years. Arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to Rowlings Funeral Home, Musquodobo­it Harbour. Considerin­g restrictio­ns on gathering and travel, there will be private memorial service and burial in St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Ship Harbour. Memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Ship Harbour.
