Halifax cops ask for help finding stolen car
Halifax Regional Police are asking the public for help in finding a stolen vehicle that was believed to be taken by the same man who later robbed a convenience store.
According to an HRP news release, officers responded at 6:55 p.m. on Wednesday to a report that a man stole a car from the gas pumps at a Shell service station at 2616 Robie St. while the driver was inside the station.
Shortly after 7 p.m., police responded to a robbery in progress at the Needs convenience store at 33 Herring Cove Rd.
The thief threatened the clerk with a knife and demanded cash. He then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and left the area in a car.
“Investigators believe the same man is responsible for both the car theft and the robbery, and that the stolen car was used in the robbery,” the release said.
The stolen car is a fourdoor, gray and blue 2013 Chevy Cruze with Nova Scotia licence plate CHX724.
“The suspect is described as a white man, 35 to 40 years old,” the release said. “At the time of the incidents, he was wearing a gray jacket with fur around the hood, jeans, lime green shoes, a hat, a black non-medical mask and gloves.”
It's the second time in four days that vehicles were stolen at the Shell station. Another was taken on Sunday at 12:05 a.m. As a result, police are reminding drivers to take their keys with them and lock the car doors while paying for gas.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about the vehicle or the suspect to contact police at 902490-5016 or Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or submit a secure web tip at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca or by using the P3 Tips app.
