CLARKE, Nancy Marguerite
1956-2020. Nancy passed away in the Palliative Care Unit at the VG Site, QEII, Halifax, on December 30, 2020 surrounded by family and friends. Born in Gander, N.L. to Eric and the late Dorothy (Verge) Clarke, she grew up close to her large extended family. A devoted daughter, she encouraged her parents to move to Halifax after her father’s retirement to spend more time with them as their health declined. At the time of her own death she was still active in the care of her father at Parkland at the Gardens, a community she adored. Nancy leaves to mourn her father, Eric; and brothers, David (Linda) of Gander; uncle, Graham P. Verge of St. John’s; as well as her many cousins and friends. Nancy’s sense of style, grace and generosity were known and appreciated by everyone who knew and loved her. Known as "Fancy Nancy" by her young cousins she had a 42 year career in the Airline Industry and was employed with Air Canada at the time of her death where she was affectionately called "Nancy Speaking", a testament to her consummate social skills and throwback to when she worked as a switchboard operator for EPA. Her passions were travel, fashion and textiles; a perfect day would be spent attending a Batta Shoe Museum, in Toronto, however she adored the simple pleasures of a drive to the South Shore and a picnic lunch just as much. Her favorite pastime in the city was a walk in the Public Gardens. In lieu of flowers and delayed celebration of a life welllived, donations to Friends of the Public Gardens (PO Box 36013, 5665 Spring Garden Rd., Halifax, NS B3J 3S9) or a charity of choice would be appreciated.
