PATRIQUIN, Ernest James "Ernie"

With deep sadness we announce the passing of Ernest "Ernie" Patriquin, age 88, of Scotsburn on January 6, 2021 in the Palliative Care Unit of Aberdeen Hospital. He left us peacefully with family at his side. Born on Dalhousie Mountain in 1932, he was a son of the late Earle Patriquin and Libby (Patriquin) Fraser. He grew up in Diamond/west Branch where the hard-working, genuine people of these communities shaped his work ethic, his values and positive outlook on life. He was employed locally throughout his life at Gammon Lumber, Proudfoots and the Scotsburn Co-op. Ernie was the man of a thousand stories, always entertaining family and friends with his stories and jokes. He loved his family, visiting friends, auction sales, flea markets and draft horses. He never missed the Pictou Exhibition where he spent hours renewing the many friendships he made over the years. He knew so many people and talked with everyone he met. Part of his charm was his ability to celebrate the uniqueness of every individual he met along the way. His passing leaves a tremendous void in the lives of his wife of 61 years, Virginia (Green); his daughter Heather and his son-in-law Yash Srivastava. He is also survived by his brother, Gerald (Mary) Patriquin, Burlington, Ont; his sisters, Alma Hiltz, Glen Haven Manor; and Helen Patriquin, Halifax; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Donald. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mclaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of Aberdeen Hospital, Victorian Order of Nurses or the Pictou North Colchester Exhibition Draft Horse Division.
