SMITH-GRANT (Delorey), Edna

-

Edna was born on November 16, 1939 in Tracadie and passed away peacefully on January 7, 2021 in Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. She was a daughter of the late Mary (Kavenaugh) and Roland Delorey. Edna spoke often of her happy early years growing up on a farm with her tight-knit family. These years instilled in her a strong sense of community and service to others - qualities she carried with her throughout her life. She started out early, when at just 11 years old she took a bus alone to Truro with 4H to show a cow and ended up taking home the top prize and bringing great pride to her farm. Most of her life she was active in team sports. Later in life she became an active bowler and at the age of 65 she took up canoeing - Keji was a favourite spot to camp and explore. Her artistic flair was expressed in her love of quilting, gardening and painting and she was the founding member of the 14th Pallet Art Group. The church community played a large role in her life. She served as President of the St. Rose of Lima CWL and was a member of the Parish Council as well as a catechism instructor for 10 years. Above all, family was the most important part of her life. She was proud of all her children and loved being a grandmother. Until Laurie’s passing in 2019, Edna and Laurie lived in East Gore where she described her life as "happy and peaceful". She wished to express her deep gratitude to all the family, friends and neighbours who supported her during her illness. Edna is survived by her children, Jocelyn, Bradley, Rodney (Tanya), Carter (Antonia), Andrew (Colleen); stepson, Greg (Michelle) Grant; grandchildren, Taylor, Lawson, Sophia, Madeline, Zoey; siblings, Francis, John (Heather), Donald (Margaret), Angela (David) Harris, Ronald (Anne "Puggy"), Helena (Russell) Cook; a large extended family and many close friends. Besides her parents, Edna was predeceased by her first husband, John Smith, second husband, Laurie Grant; brother, Gerald; sisters- in- law, Marie, Audrey and Leslie. As per Edna’s wishes, her remains have been donated to Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Medicine. A private family service will be held. To those attending the service, COVID-19 provincial regulations apply; masks are required to be worn and social distancing guidelines muse be adhered to. A special family thank you goes out to the staff at VON, Mitchell’s Rest Home, Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Dr. Courtney Smith, Dawn Ross and the rest of the palliative care team.
