SMITH (Simmonds), Rev. Alfreda Evangeline

Age 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 16, 2021 in Dartmouth General Hospital with her daughter Belinda by her side. Born October 23, 1939 in North Preston, to the late Robert Sr. and Annie (Cain) Simmonds. Rev. Alfreda was married to the late Everett E. Smith for 39 years and together they raised 11 children. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Saviour in 1951 at the age of 11 and was baptized in Saint Thomas United Baptist Church. Rev. Alfreda began teaching Sunday school at the age of 12, and taught for 53 years. In 1971 Rev. Alfreda felt the call of God to enter the Christian ministry and enrolled in Atlantic School of Theology (AST), in 1996. She received licenses to preach from St. Thomas United Baptist Church and the AUBA. Rev. Alfreda is survived by her sons, Daniel E., Calgary, Alta.; Gerald (Christine), North Preston; and Roland (aka Ronnie), Halifax; daughters, Rebecca (Guy) Prince, Georgina (Jessie) Williams, both of Calgary, Alta.; Anne (Calvin) Simmons, Belinda (Roger) Grant, Heather (Gerry) Simmonds, all of North Preston; Alexis, Halifax; Angela, Toronto, Ont.; and Faye, Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Norma Downey, North Preston; brothers, Roland (Sharon), Toronto, Ont.; Morton (Delores), and Wayne (Donalda), of North Preston; 31 grandchild­ren, and 35 greatgrand­children; Godchildre­n, Rolanda Kane, Lavonne Sparks, Glen Cain, Clinton Fraser, Christine Simmonds and Clifton Riley. She was predecease­d by sisters, Madeline Suella Kane, Edith Sparks, Madge Simmonds; and brothers, Aubrey Cain, Ralph, Robert Jr., Eric, and Stanford. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the African United Baptist Associatio­n (to help women studying ministry), St. Thomas Baptist Church, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
