DAVIS, Patricia Ann

-

February 27, 1949 – May 16, 2022. Patti Davis passed away peacefully at home in Halifax on May 16, 2022. She leaves to mourn her beloved husband, Bob Mccarroll; her stepchildren, Monica West (Geoff West), Julie Mccarroll (Brendan Curry), and Paul Mccarroll; and her grandchildren, Owen and Simon West and Claire and Maeve Curry; as well her devoted sister, Carolyn Davis Stewart (Dr. Dan Reid); and her brother, Greg Davis; and her nieces and nephews, Kimberley, Greg, Brad, and Patricia Sarah (Trish). Patti was a daughter of the late Dr. Murray and Ester Davis of Halifax. Patti also had a special devotion to her big yellow labs, Sam and Tucker. Patti was a devoted scholastic and athletic student from her days at Cornwallis as Head Girl, and subsequently QEH where she was a star basketball player. She continued to excel in academics while also leading the varsity basketball team at Dalhousie University. Patti graduated with BA and BPE degrees from Dal and went off to teach Physical Education at Halifax West High School. She then returned to Dalhousie Law School, graduating among the top of her class, before heading to Calgary, Alta., to join a corporate law firm. Three years later the call of the Maritimes compelled her to return to Halifax, where she was among the first group of female lawyers at the firm Boyne Clarke in Dartmouth. There she specialized in the practice of corporate and commercial law, and became the first female partner at the firm on February 1, 1990. While at Boyne Clarke she met the love of her life, Bob Mccarroll, while playing for a company golf day at the Chester Golf Club. They shared the only umbrella in their foursome during a rainy eighteen holes, and shortly thereafter they were married. Patti took early retirement to enjoy her lifelong passion for golf and other sports. She was a committed basketball fan since girlhood, when she was invited as the first and only girl to join a boys’ team on the Conrose Field near her Jubilee Road family home. Patti bravely suffered with COPD for many years. She received a double lung transplant in Toronto, Ont., over four years ago, and was the first Maritime patient to await the procedure at her Halifax home. This was a precedent she was proud to have pioneered for subsequent patients. There will be a celebration of Patti’s life at the Armdale Yacht Club on May 28 from 5-7 p.m. Condolences may be left at Snow’s Funeral Home at: www.jasnowfuneralhome.com Donations may be left to a charity of your choice or to Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
