PUMPKINS FOR A GOOD CAUSE
Pumpkins for Poverty is Friday, Oct. 16 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Victoria Square in downtown Amherst.
Hosted by Empowering Beyond Barriers, the event has been a successful fundraiser for the Amherst Food Assistance Network. Pumpkins for Poverty also helps educate people about poverty in the community and raises awareness of the barriers faced by those living in poverty.
People are invited to bring a nonperishable food item or a monetary donation and in return they will get a pumpkin.
The project, that has raised several thousand dollars for the food bank, couldn’t happen without the support of Janet and Marty Rose of Alder Meadow Farm in Linden.
AMHERST ANNOUNCES SMALL PROJECTS
Amherst is moving forward with a couple of small projects after announcing amendments to the 202021 capital budget at a recent council meeting.
The installation of grass infields at the three baseball/softball diamonds at the Robb Centennial Complex ill cost approximately $30,000 and significantly cut the amount of dust that blows from the fields during dry, windy weather.
The town is also spending approximately $15,000 to replace the Park Street sidewalk between Patterson and Mission streets.
Funding for both projects will come from the federal gas tax.
