Mother of 3 killed instantly after being struck by boat in Thailand, say authorities

The Penticton mother of three killed in a snorkelling accident last week in Thailand is remembered as a loving woman.

Shelly Bot, 50, was snorkelling off the island of Ko Kut when she was struck by a boat. According to authorities, she was killed instantly.

She leaves behind three children: Kurtis, Kevin and Tamara.

In a post on social media, Kevin asked people not to take loved ones for granted.

“No matter what goes on in your life, you’re never too busy to tell someone how much they mean to you,” he wrote. “Or to just let them know that you love them or care.

“It doesn’t have to be spoken or actions to prove it. Thoughts to one’s self is enough.

“Please if you are reading this do tell someone you love just that, because, like me, you may no longer have the chance.

“I will always think of you and never forget you. Now you can finally rest in peace. Goodbye Mother.”

Shelly Bot worked at the Dollar Tree store on Skaha Lake Road, where she was much loved by co-workers and customers. Cards of condolence began arriving when news of her death broke Wednesday. A memorial with flowers and photographs is on display at the store.

Her life partner, Jack, remains in Thailand making arrangements.
