Okanagan Gymnastics team wins 4 all-around gold medals

The Tarasenco sisters were among four members of the Okanagan Gymnastics women’s artistic team to win all-around gold at the recent Omega Invitation­al in Coquitlam.

Veronica Tarasenco, Iulia Tarasenco, Veronika Yacovelli and Tara Dunn captured the top honour for their combined efforts from several events.

Veronica Tarasenco, 13, earned gold on the vault, silver on beam and bronze on both the uneven bars and floor exercise for the top all-around score in the Junior Olympic (JO) 8 category.

Iulia Tarasenco, 9, captured gold on the uneven bars and floor exercise and silver on the balance beam to win the JO 4 category.

Yacovelli, 11, won the JO 5 category, while Dunn, 8, topped the JO 3 – 2009 category. Dunn claimed four medals, winning gold on the balance beam and floor exercise and silver on the vault and uneven bars.

Other medallists from the Okanagan Gymnastics team included Piper Campo, 9, who finished second overall after winning the vault and placing second on the floor and third on the uneven bars.

Alexandra Kennedy, 9, finished third overall, earning silver on vault and bronze on beam.

Haylee Van Steinburg won gold on the beam with an impressive score of 9.60.

Teagan Murray, 10, took gold on vault, bronze on beam and third place overall.

Raedyn Furneaux, 10, and Lexi Crawford, 7, both won bronze for their vaults.

In the JO 3 – 2007-08 category, Junelle Sabang, 8, finished third overall and claimed a silver medal on the balance beam.

Izabelle Coetzee, 8, won gold on the floor and bronze on the beam.

Summer Houston, 9, captured silver on the vault, while Talia Westwood, 8, also earned a silver medal for her floor exercise. Ava Roth, 8, won bronze on vault. Alayna Butler, 12, earned a silver medal on the uneven bars in the JO 6 – 2006-2004 category.

Olive Fenske, 8, won the JO 6 – 2007-08 category with golds from the bars and floor exercise, silver from the vault and bronze from the beam.

Sydney Ortynski, 9, finished in third place overall after earning a gold on the beam, silver on the floor and bronze on the bars.

In the Aspire 1 category, Miah Denis, 9, finished third overall with a silver medal on the vault and a bronze on the bars. Natalia Simeunovic, 10, won bronze on the beam.

In the JO 9 – 2005 category, Amanda Jaggard, 11, finished second overall on the strength of three bronze medals from the bars, beam and floor. Kyleigh Crawford, 12, was third overall thanks in part to earning silver for her balance-beam routine.

In the JO 10 – 2003-2005 category, Kamryn Greenhalgh finished second overall, with a silver on the beam and a bronze on the floor.
