Local curlers win blind championship for eighth time

-

The warmth in the sun is one of the first signs that spring is on the way. With that, the Kelowna blind curlers season will be rapping up shortly.

We wish to take this opportunity to thank our donors and supporters of our annual Beer, Burgers and Bids fundraiser.

Your donations to our event and purchasing tickets to our fundraiser have allowed our program to grow and introduce curling to those who are blind and visually impaired.

A special acknowledgement also goes out to our volunteer coaches and guides that has assisted our members.

We have had an extremely successful season highlighted by the Kelowna team defending its provincial blind curling championships.

To end the season on a high, the Kelowna team of skip Dean Martell, third Donna Loewen, second Frank Costello, lead Bob Comba, on-ice guide Dan Martell and coach Barb Comba attended the Canadian Council of the Blind Canadian Vision Impaired Curling Championships in Ottawa in February during White Cane Week.

They won the event for the eighth time and will be back as Team Canada in 2018 to defend their title.

Here’s to a wonderful summer to all. More information about the Kelowna Blind Curling program can be obtained by calling Bill at 250-878-0710.
