Local gymnastics club sends 60 athletes to provincial­s

Okanagan Gymnastics Centre was well represente­d at the Gymnastics BC Provincial Championsh­ips in Port Coquitlam earlier this month, with about 60 athletes competing.

Men’s Artistic Gymnastics

Shane Hiscock competed in the National Open category, finishing eighth overall, fourth on floor, fifth on high bar and sixth on rings.

Brady Clegg earned second place on vault and high bar, plus third on floor in the Level 5 category. Also in Level 5, Lucas Fabian finished first on vault.

Jack Nyrose finished 16th overall in the Level 3 category against nearly 40 athletes. He finished fourth on floor and fifth on vault.

In Level 2, Hani Rehan placed third overall — second on floor and second on rings. Elliot Bone finished eighth on rings and 10th on pommel.

Trampoline Gymnastics

The OGC trampoline team won five gold, 10 silver and five bronze medals.

Ethan Scott placed second all around in the province for athletes who compete in all three events — first in Level 2, U13 double mini, third in Level 1 tumbling and fourth in Level 3 trampoline.

OGC won third place in team all around in all three events — trampoline, double mini trampoline and tumbling.

Andrew Martin was second in the Men’s Senior trampoline.

Andrew Oliver, competing in Level 6 U17, won a bronze medal on the trampoline.

Jordyn Yendley won the Women’s Level 6 U17 in both the individual trampoline and the double mini trampoline.

Taya Lawless won the Level 4 U15 double mini trampoline, while Vanna Harris earned a silver medal in the same category.

Janiah Harris finished second in Level 3 15-plus double mini trampoline. The Harris twins, Vanna and Janiah, won silver in Level 5 synchroniz­ed trampoline.

Kelly Dolgopol finished with a bronze medal in the Level 4 16-plus trampoline event.

Ally Wyllie won the Level 3 U15 double mini trampoline event.

Travis Towers won the silver medal in Level 5 U15 double mini trampoline.

Max Vandenberg and Brett Judson finished with a bronze medal in the Level 4 synchroniz­ed trampoline. Judson also won a silver medal in individual trampoline.

Ella Law finished with two silver medals in the Level 2 14-plus trampoline and double mini trampoline.

Nate Banner earned silver and Jacob Kochylema finished with a bronze medal in the Level 2 trampoline event.

Women’s Artistic Gymnastics

Two women’s artistic athletes qualified to the Canadian Championsh­ips — Jenna Mick and Lucia Jakab will represent Okanagan Gymnastics Centre in Montreal in May.

Mick qualified to Team BC in Level 10 after finishing in the top six after two trial events. She finished eighth overall at provincial­s, with her top placing on floor exercise.

Jakab competes in the High Performanc­e Junior category, along with only one other athlete in the province. At provincial­s, Jakab won the vault and uneven bars.

Also in the Level 10 category, Kamryn Greenhalgh finished fourth on the uneven bars.

In Level 9, Kyleigh Crawford finished with a silver medal on the uneven bars, Amanda Jaggard was fifth on balance beam and ninth overall, Sophie Tesar placed seventh on floor exercise and Samantha Pelletier was seventh on balance beam.

Veronica Tarasenco was third overall in Level 8 after finishing in second place on uneven bars and balance beam. Kimberly Stadtmuell­er won the overall silver medal in her age category. Camille Phillips finished fourth and Danica Graves was eighth on vault. Grace Driver finished sixth on floor, seventh on uneven bars, eighth on vault and ninth overall.

In the Level 7 category, Mackenzie Carroll was third overall with bronze medals on uneven bars and balance beam. Emily Mackay finished fifth on uneven bars.

In the Women’s Aspire 1 category, Jayelle Williams won a bronze medal on vault and finished eighth overall. Miah Denis was seventh overall.

Olive Fenske was fifth overall in Level 6 after placing fourth on balance beam, fifth on uneven bars, seventh on vault and eighth on floor.

In Level 5, Piper Campo won bronze medals on vault and floor exercise, was ninth on balance beam and sixth overall. Iulia Tarasenco finished with a silver medal on the balance beam and was ninth on the floor exercise. Kate Levinsen was sixth on uneven bars, eighth on floor and ninth overall, while Veronika Yacovelli was 10th overall and 10th on uneven bars.
