Regional Parks Security

The Regional Board supports continuing with the program of contracted after-hours park security in place since December 1st. At that time, the Commissionaires took on duties of opening and closing gates and after-hours security for eight Regional Parks, in addition to the 13 regional parks for which they were already providing the same services. The operational decision to provide the single, standardized security delivery model will result in over $42,000 in future operating and administrative savings in addition to over $900,000 that would be required in the future to maintain and repair residences in each park which house the previous security contractors. Those people still living in these residences have tenancy agreements that meet their individual accommodation needs and expire at various times through end of August this year.

FrontCounter B.C. referral application

The Regional Board does not support an application made by Black Dragon Action Sports to FrontCounter B.C. for a Crown Land tenure lease. The applicant proposes to host seasonal paintball and airsoft activities on a 17-hectare parcel of Crown Land near Three Forks Road in Joe Rich. The Board asks that should the Provincial agency consider granting tenure approval, that the applicant meet a number of conditions including Best Management Practices for protecting sources of drinking water and consultation with the Black Mountain Irrigation District which sources its water downstream along Mission Creek.

Secondary suite applications

The Regional Board has approved three separate zoning bylaw amendment applications to allow secondary suites involving existing single family houses.

The addresses are 3331 Marion Road in Kelowna, 5774 Deadpine Drive in Kelowna and 6105 Fathers Place in Kelowna.
