Liberals are no financial geniuses

Editor:

British Columbians must not be fooled by Christy Clark’s cheeky smile, glib responses and a well-oiled, big-money campaign. Let facts speak for themselves.

What began as a fun challenge to readers, has become a comprehensive list of 100-plus reasons the BC Liberals must go. Google it.

Clark and ministers Norm Letnick, and Steve Thomson are the Okanagan three musketeers playing the opposite role of Robin Hood, robbing the poor taxpayers to give to the rich. Make hay while the sun shines.

Remember the well-publicized, generous gift of $10,000 Norm Letnick made to the food bank of Lake County that made front page, earning the public endorsement of Mayor James Baker. I guest it is cheap to buy votes.

Should voters give the Liberal Party the other cheek, or tit for tat? Wait a minute. Isn’t the premier generous?

Few months before a general election, Clark said she has asked the BC Liberal Party to stop paying her an annual top up ($50,000) to her public salary since the issue had become a distraction, not because receiving the money was wrong:

“It’s been happening in B.C. for probably 20 years, and fully disclosed and fully acceptable to the conflict commissioner,” Clark told reporters.

The Globe and Mail reported that lobbyists in the province made political donations on behalf of their clients, effectively camouflaging the identity of the real donors and breaking B.C.’s Elections Act in the.

As a result, Elections BC announced it was conducting an investigation into the Globe’s findings. Five days later, the entire matter was referred to the RCMP.

Voters are told B.C. has had several consecutive surpluses. Bravo. The Liberal Party robbed the people by milking ICBC, BC Hydro, and MSP

In 2010, the Liberal-controlled legislature passed a bill giving the cabinet power to move “excess capital” from ICBC into government coffers.

The Liberal party keeps claiming it has had a five consecutive surpluses. The 2014 and 2015 budgets predicted $8.9 billion in net income by 2016-17 from Crown corporations to help the government balance its books.

That includes $1.23 billion in dividends from BC Hydro over the next three fiscal years, and $480 million of “excess optional capital” from ICBC during the same period. (Vancouver Sun, Feb. 19, 2014).

Anybody who is crazy about the Liberal Party must be thrilled to see rates they pay for car insurance and electric and gas skyrocketed. Suddenly, millions of bribe money for projects that were neglected or rejected before appears just before the May 9 election. Dumb voters.

ICBC raised basic insurance rates by 4.9 per cent in November, and Hydro rates are set to go up 28 per cent over five years.

Prodded by a severe scolding from former auditor general John Doyle, the government promised to wean itself off faux Hydro dividends, starting in 2018. Bravo Christy, you deserve an Oscar for manipulation.

How many people remember ICBC was created to stop private insurance from milking British Columbians?

ICBC should pay for itself, with room enough to accumulate surpluses to cushion rate increases when losses exceed premiums. (Times Colonist, August 9, 2016).

There are countless people who are shocked to see their hydro and gas bill skyrocketed, not to mention their car insurance.

What is the chance Okanagan for voters to act rationally and send the three Musketeers and their selfish Liberal colleagues packing?
