Sajjan not the only one to embellish his credentials
Editor:
Politicians, professional pundits and amateur scribblers rightfully expressed indignation when Canada’s Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan greatly embellished his role during a key battle in the Afghan war, and there have been calls for his resignation.
In the eyes of many, he has gone from hero soldier to tawdry politician in one fell swoop, and apparently it’s not the first time that braggadocio has gotten the better of him.
Countless politicians are guilty of similar offences, but have survived to fight another day; like B.C.’s Premier Christy Clark, for example.
She came under the glow of Victoria’s political klieg-lights when the BC Liberal Party gained power 16 years ago, with claims she had graduated from the Sorbonne in Paris, the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, and Simon Fraser University. In fact, there were no graduations nor degrees from anywhere, except for a high-school diploma.
Yet, she was immediately appointed Minister of Education, and all British Columbians are aware how that portfolio was mismanaged by her.
Sadly, we all realize that blowing their own trumpets and breaking campaign promises are all part and parcel of participants in the political game. Even more sadly, we, The Great Unwashed, are expected to support these persistently perfidious politicians. Bernie Smith, Parksville
