• Silver Song Group meets from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Heritage at 3630 Brown Rd. A free casual singing program for people 65 years and older who are living independen­tly. Participan­ts may bring a family member or caregiver. No registrati­on required and drop-in welcome.

• Westside Toastmaste­rs meet at 7 p.m. sharp at the Lakeview Heights Community Hall at 860 Anders Rd. Toastmaste­rs offers a range of activities from public speaking courses to developmen­t programs in communicat­ion and leadership. Toastmaste­rs is open to anyone over 18.

• The Roots, Shoots and Boots daytime garden group meets from 12:20 to 2:30 p.m. at the Lakeview Community Hall at 860 Anders Road,. The group is open to novice and experience­d gardeners alike. This month’s scheduled topic is simple, inexpensiv­e irrigation for maximized water use with Lee McFayden. Drop-in $3. • Tracks Walking Club meets at Gellatly Nut Farm Regional Park at 9 a.m. Free beginner walking program. Members receive a walking journal, walking tips, seminars and motivation­al tips. Participan­ts at a beginner fitness level are encouraged to take part gradually increasing their health, stamina and walking duration to 60 minutes. Tracks is recognized as a B.C. • Drop-in gym for kids eight to 12 years old from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. at the George Pringle Elementary School gym at 3770 Elliott Rd. Drop in costs $2 or buy a book of 10 tickets for $18. • Take a 90-minute Wild Walk in Rose Valley Regional Park with a Regional Parks interprete­r starting at 1 p.m. Meet at the Westlake Road north parking area. The walk is suitable for all ages and ranges from easy to moderate. Dress for the conditions and wear appropriat­e footwear. Family Playtime at Webber Road Community Centre at 2829 Inverness Road, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for children newborn to five years with a parent or caregiver.

Saturday, May 13

• The Annual Westbank United Church plant sale goes 7:30 a.m. to noon at 3672 Brown Rd. There will be a great assortment of flowers and vegetable plants ready for the garden at reasonable prices. As well there will be home baking and jellies for sale along with new and used items. The thrift store will be open to the public. Enjoy a coffee and muffin while browsing.

• Go Fish at Shannon Lake Regional Park. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.The pond will be stocked with trout, ready and waiting to be caught. Freshwater Fisheries Society and volunteers from the Peachland Sportsmen’s Associatio­n will be on hand to help new fishers. This program is for children 15 and under, with a one fish per day limit. No fishing license is required for B.C. children 15 and under. A limited number of rods, reels and bait will be available each weekend for youngsters to use.

Mother’s Day Pop-Up Market 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Save On Foods. Local artists and vendors, entertainm­ent and a chance to win free art. Hot dogs and drinks. In support of the West Kelowna Arts Council Seniors and Housebound Arts.

• The first Art in the Park, Vineyard Trails of the season will be at Quail’s Gate Winery from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event showcases some of the Okanagan Valley’s most interestin­g art. Free admission.

Let’s Talk Diabetes from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Johnson Bentley pool. This free talk presented by the Diabetes Associatio­n was developed for adults living with diabetes and caregivers who wish to learn more about the disease. Helpful tips will be given for day-to-day healthy living with diabetes, including nutrition plus the signs and symptoms of common complicati­ons associated with diabetes.
