The Daily Courier

But this reader says the rules are really quite straightforward

Editor: In response to the letter Thursday from Dr. Diane McIntosh concerning airport security in Kelowna: Seriously? Your letter offends me in so many ways I can’t begin to relate them all. However, I feel the headline should read “Kelowna Airport security is the best.”

If you were allowed to take anything on any airplane in any airport that does not meet regulations, then I would think security is not secure enough.

Any liquid has to fit into the small plastic bags, a well-known fact.

If your package of mascara didn’t fit, then yes, you should be required to open it up and put it in properly. Just because it is packaged does not mean it is safe, unless you purchased it after you passed through security.

Do you feel because you are a doctor, you are exempt from security measures? What makes you feel you can do it and the next person can’t, and if you were allowed to go through with your package intact then what about the next passenger and the next and so on?

The rules apply to everyone, and that includes you.

Had I been in line and you had been allowed to proceed with your mascara unopened, then I would complain that the security/screening guards were not doing their job.

Also, if you show them respect then they will return it. As for searching your other carry-on bag when you returned, of course they are going to search it; you left the secure area, that is a no-brainer.

Sometimes, when travelling, we do get a bit frustrated with all the fuss going through the screening process, but if that’s the worst that has ever happened then consider yourself blessed. And consider yourself safe.

These people are doing the job they are trained to do to the best of their ability and they are keeping us as safe as they can. Don’t belittle them or disrespect them. These measures are for everyone’s safety.

Just remember, they are humans and have feelings. Co-operate and everyone has a more pleasant day.

As for your work with mental health and the proper prescribing of medications, I thank you for all that you do. Deanna Parker, Kelowna
