Greed is the root of our problems

-

Editor: Now is the time to respond to much of the legislation that is being put into practice.

Why can’t our oil producers be satisfied with providing Canadians with the benefits of oil and not have to pipe thousands of barrels out of our country? Surely they can make a good living by our needs. Instead, we allow the oil cartel to control our price and determine the value of our dollar. The answer is greed.

All of our necessities are controlled by monopolies, many of them foreign. Once we lose control of our industries, we are subject to less service, underpaid workers, limited full-time employment and higher prices. Just look at the cost of living increase: Gas, electricity, food, homes, rent and all necessary items for survival. If prices don’t go up, then quantity is reduced. What allows monopolies? Again, the answer is greed. We can get rid of this monopolistic system by taxing all foreign investments and corporations that control a monopoly.

Capitalism is based on greed and, right now, is the curse of the world. The platform of capitalism is to gain control of an industry and then limit full-time employment, pay minimum wage and cut back on service. Once control of the industry is accomplished, then they charge as much as they want.

Communism and socialism is not the alternative. I challenge you and our politicians to study the platform of these ISM's and pick out the best part of each to form an ISM of our own.

I have tried contacting our prime ministers and our provincial representatives, and only two of our representatives replied, one thanking me and the other to agree to disagree with me. It is very difficult to get their attention. God bless us all,

Art Ferguson, West Kelowna
