A three-year-old with his own shovel is among West Kelowna’s Snow Stars.

Cashton Miller was one of the people honoured this week for helping clear the driveways of neighbours after a big snowstorm.

Little Cashton, along with his brothers eight-year-old Carter Romano and four-yearold Lochlan Miller, were given awards by Mayor Doug Findlater at this week’s West Kelowna council meeting.

The Glenrosa youngsters, all dressed in plaid shirts and shorts, proudly received their awards after being nominated by Bob and Carrie Taylor.

“All three boys have helped us do our driveway this past winter, without even being asked,” the Taylors say. “They even have their own shovels. We really appreciated all their help.”

Findlater praised the community-mindedness of the Miller boys, who received gift certificates to Toys R Us, and jokingly invited them to come shovel his driveway too next winter.

The City of West Kelowna’s Snow Stars program, now in its fourth year, encourages people to help their neighbours, particularly those who may be frail or elderly, to shovel their walks and driveways after a big storm.

Also honoured as Snow Stars were Jack Trelenberg of Falconer Crescent and Karl Wojahn of Glen Canyon Drive.

Wojahn was nominated by no less than five of his neighbours for the award.

“He’s always the first one outside after a snowstorm to shovel sidewalks, so others can carry on with their day,” one of his nominators said.
