Pirates aren’t afraid of a little high water

-

PENTICTON — The SS Sicamous will be overrun with pirates on Father’s Day.

Organizers announced the Children’s Pirate Festival is going ahead, in spite of the high water, and the crew is working hard to ensure the event is a success.

This year will be the first time the ship has been floating with pirates on board.

“The water has presented some challenges,” said organizer Jessie Dunlop, “but we are working around them.

“The City of Penticton has given us permission to move some activities onto the paved areas in front of the ship, and we will be firing water balloons over the flood barriers.

“The climbing mountain will be in front of the rose garden, and the rubber duck races are now on the bow. It’s going to be fun.”

True pirates aren’t deterred by a little water.

Miniature trains will be running, and volunteers will be hosting activities all over the ship.

Young pirates can battle with balloon swords, do crafts and get involved in all sorts of swashbuckling fun including attempting to walk-the-plank, dig for hidden treasures and face painting too.

Families and children are invited to join in the pirate-themed mayhem on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the S.S.Sicamous.

Hotdogs, snacks and food will be available. Registration is onsite and $5 per child.

The party will be a fun filled family event, and fundraiser for the S.S.Sicamous Society.
