Lots of success stories from Ogopogo Invitational
Okanagan Gymnastics Centre hosted the largest Ogopogo Invitational in history last weekend, with 950 athletes from across B.C. and Alberta, along with a team from Ontario.
The athletes from Okanagan Gymnastics earned a total of 60 medals throughout the weekend, with four overall titles and 10 overall podiums.
Rae Roworth, Eva Solano, Haylee Van Steinburg and Mackenzie Carroll were the four all-around champions from OGC.
In the Level 3 category, Roworth won the overall title after finishing first on floor and second on vault and beam.
Lexi Crawford claimed gold on vault, followed by teammates Ava Roth (silver) and Elisa Schoen (bronze).
In Level 4, Okanagan athletes earned the top spot overall in two of the age categories.
Solano won the overall title after placing first on beam and floor, while Van Steinburg won the overall title after winning the vault, beam and floor exercise. Van Steinburg also earned a bronze medal on the bars.
In Level 7, Carroll finished in the top spot overall after winning the uneven bars. Taylor Bowden earned a bronze medal on the floor exercise.
In Level 8, Veronica Tarasenco earned a first-place finish on vault and second-place finishes on beam and floor. Kimberly Stadtmueller earned second place overall.
In Level 10, Kamryn Greenhalgh won the vault and finished third on floor in the junior age category. Gabriela Beselt won vault and also finished third on floor in the senior age category.
Locals attend nationals, Jakab earns medal on vault
The Canadian Gymnastics Championships were recently held in Montreal, with two athletes and their coaches from Okanagan Gymnastics Centre competing in the event.
Jenna Mick, Junior Olympic Level 10 category, qualified for her first Canadian Championships in April. She earned a 10thplace finish on the floor exercise.
Lucia Jakab, in the High Performance Junior category, finished second on vault to claim her first Canadian Championships medal. As a result, Jakab earned an invite to a “2020 Hopefuls” national team training camp in Sarnia, Ont., next month.
