Liquid Lightning athletes competing at provincial­s

The Liquid Lightning sent 16 athletes to a recent swim meet in Kamloops and brought home 16 medals, along with 64 best times and three new club records.

Jacklyn Pengilly dropped eight seconds from her 200 back and two seconds from her 100 back to become the newest AA provincial qualifier. Those championsh­ips were held on the weekend in Richmond but results were not yet available, while the AAA provincial­s are slated for July 6 to 9.

At Kamloops, Ava Toyata swam to a silver medal in the 100 free, taking off two seconds to earn her third AAA time and qualify for the AAA provincial­s. Toyata also won bronze in the 100 breast and 50 free, while placing fourth in the 50 breast and sixth in 200 IM and 200 breast. She also dropped 11 seconds in her 100 back.

Pierson Piche swam to two club records in the 100 free and 200 breast, while winning four gold medals in the 200 free, 200 IM, 200 back and 50 back, plus three silver medals in the 200 breast, 100 free and 50 fly.

Liam Collie earned two silver medals in the 200 back and 200 fly, plus two bronze in the 50 breast and 100 fly. Collie twice finished fourth too, in the 50 back and 200 IM.

Nathaniel Hees swam to silver in the 200 fly and a new club record in the same event. Hees also had two fifth-place finishes in the 100 and 200 back, and was eighth in 200 free.

Kassidie Cornell won bronze in 50 breast and placed sixth in the 200 breast.

Annika James and Breagh Bridge both swam to 100 per cent best times, while Kaleigh Reese swam to seven best times.

Jadeyn Wiebe dropped seven seconds in the 100 breast, and Alex Strobel also took off seven seconds in her 400IM.

Other strong swims were turned in by Avery Simpson, Victoria Koehle, Madison Seeley, Enrica Guidi and Breanna James.
