Kelowna RCMP not letting go of their old headquarters just yet
RCMP have year’s lease on old headquarters, but they aren’t saying what they’re using it for
Despite moving into a new detachment, the Kelowna RCMP aren’t done with the old one just yet.
The police have leased the Doyle Avenue detachment from the City of Kelowna for another year. Also, the site is being fortified with new fencing going up around the back and sides.
An RCMP spokeswoman didn’t shed much light on the situation Wednesday.
“All I can say is that the fencing is being erected as part of an ongoing police initiative and will be removed when completed,” Staff Sgt. Annie Linteau, senior media relations officer for the RCMP in B.C., wrote in an email.
On Tuesday, police staged a parade from the old detachment to their new one at the corner of Clement Avenue and Richter Street.
No mention was made during any of the speechifying, which mostly related to greatness of the new building, of the police continuing to use the old detachment as well.
Eventually, the city plans to knock down the old detachment and invite developers to submit plans for a highrise on the site.
