Benefits of acro dance

- By MICHELLE KORICINA

Acro or acrobatics is a form of dance that combines acrobatic tricks with the movement of dance.

Acro dance, along with other forms of dance are very beneficial for children in many areas including improved balance, body awareness, and increased flexibility and strength.

Acro is a great way to learn how to use the core for stability, by doing head and hand balances for example.

By learning to engage their core effectively, all aspects of the student’s dance training will improve, from ballet to hip hop.

In every class we offer, we work on strength and flexibility. I

n addition to building confidence and coordination, the students are building muscle, whether they realize it or not, just by participating in the set warm up and working through learning their tricks progressively.

The addition of stunting to our acro classes also allows the students to work together as a team and build trust in each other.

Dance classes in general are also a great way to introduce a balanced lifestyle to children.

Extracurricular activities quickly become part of a child’s daily routine, and once a routine is established is will be easier for them to carry on once they are older.

Even if they choose not to continue in their dance career, they will have that understanding of routine and commitment to a group already for any other sports or activities they choose to pursue!

We offer many classes in acrobatics, stunting, aerial hoop, and all types of dance from the recreational to the competitive level. You never know what you are capable of until you try.
