400 artists’ works showcased

A first-time solo exhibitor at the popular ArtWalk festival in Lake Country brought with her 25 pieces to sell.

But Elizabeth Christie was under no illusions that she’d sell all or even most of her acrylic and oil paintings.

“Oh, that would be dream come true, to be able to sell all of them,” Christie said Sunday. “But honestly, I’d be thrilled to sell even one.”

Christie was among 400 Okanagan artists presenting their works at the 24th annual ArtWalk. Many of them are accomplished artists, with years of critical and financial success.

“There’s lots of competition here,” Christie said of the juried show, in which artists must first convince a panel of judges their works are of high-enough quality to present at Art Walk.

“I was just very excited to be chosen to participate in ArtWalk,” Christie said.

Poor weather Saturday morning kept ArtWalk crowds slightly smaller than usual, festival organizer Sharon McCoubrey said.

“I think it’s only happened two or three times in the history of the event that we’ve had less than ideal weather,” said McCoubrey, who added that Sunday’s attendance, under fine conditions, was more robust.

Billed as the largest annual art show in B.C., ArtWalk typically sees more than $100,000 worth of work sold during its two days.
