Prime minister lied to us all
Editor: I went to the prime minister’s public forum last week. I must start off by saying I don’t disagree with everything he is doing, but the one item though that sticks in my craw is proportional representation.
He promised, over 100 times during the campaigning that this would be the last first-past-the-post election.
If you check nearly all definitions of democracy, you will see that they include the phrase “input, either directly or through a representative into the making of policy.”
Many countries have this input into policy by the citizens, not so here in Canada.
We have been brainwashed for so long about having a democracy, that most people think this is actually our political system.
I have included definitions and excerpts on democracy from prominent people on my website “citizenbaseddemocracy.com” if you care to take a look.
During his explanation of why there won’t be an opportunity for proportional representation while he is in power, he brought up the spectre of hate groups electing someone, why not add religious fanatics or any other splinter group out there.
Personally I would rather go by the old adage “know thine enemy” than simply trying to disregard them or force them into hiding. That only appears to make them stronger.
The most telling part of his response was his statement “so I decided.”
These are words of a dictator. My feelings about elected dictators can be found at “Gary Blidook youtube.” Here you will find a song I wrote (Electing My Dictator) about people who don’t believe in real democracy.
I would like to thank the young gentleman who raised the question on electoral reform before I had the opportunity. When I asked him if he liked the response, he said “he (Trudeau) never did answer the question.”
The PM has certainly developed the skill of “political speak” to a high degree, and stirring up the crowd. My applause to that.
As far as being PM, anyone who lies to your face just to get elected should be in jail, not running a country in the free world.
We will see during the next election whether his gamble pays off. Now that we don’t need to get rid of Harper maybe we can vote for what we truly believe in.
