Salvation Army: Kelowna Toy Run to take place this Sunday
The Kelowna Toy Run will take place this weekend, Sunday, Sept. 24 at 8 a.m.
Meet at Freddy’s Brew Pub at 948 McCurdy Road, the corner of McCurdy and Highway 97. All motorcycle enthusiasts are welcome. Please bring a new, unwrapped toy for The Salvation Army Christmas Blessing Campaign and enjoy a hot breakfast provided by The Salvation Army Central Okanagan. The motorcycle ride will begin at about 10 a.m.
“This is a big event for The Salvation Army Christmas Blessing Campaign,” states Kim Burry, Christmas toy depot co-ordinator. “Every year, we serve hundreds of families that need help at Christmas. Last year, we registered more than 500 families and gave away more than 1,100 toys. And we expect the need to be even higher this year.”
The Kelowna Toy Run is one of the major donation of toys to The Salvation Army. Last year, more than 500 toys were brought to the warehouse.
“We love Christmas and we love toys,” says Patty Lou Bryant, Salvation Army communications co-ordinator. “The Kelowna Toy Run gets the season started. We provide toys for children from infancy to teen years.
“Parents are looking for the perfect gift; our toy depot allows them to choose just the right item. Dolls, construction sets, sports equipment, pajamas, books, puzzles and games are the most requested items. We always need teen toys — movie passes, gift cards for iTunes, make up sets and intricate construction models.”
