A Kelowna man is facing potential charges after causing a disturbance outside his home Sunday afternoon.

Kelowna RCMP and Lake Country RCMP responded to reports of a distraught male causing a disturbance in the 700 block of Beaver Lake Road in Kelowna at 12:50 p.m.

Nearby residents reported hearing the male screaming and acting erratically, said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“Officers arrived on the scene and immediately began efforts to de-escalate the situation,” he said.

The man retreated to his vehicle, then rammed it into one of the police vehicles twice before fleeing the scene.

“RCMP safely monitored the movements of the suspect vehicle with the assistance of unmarked police vehicles and the Southeast District RCMP air services,” said O’Donaghey.

The 66-year-old Kelowna man was taken into police custody and apprehended under the Mental Health Act after he returned to his home.

He was transported to the hospital for a full medical assessment and now faces potential charges.

The Lake Country Mountie whose police vehicle was hit continues to recover from non-lifethreatening injuries she sustained as a result of the incident.

Witnesses who have not yet spoken to police are asked to contact the RCMP at 250-762-3300.
