The UBC Okanagan men’s soccer team rounded out a victorious weekend with a 3-0 home win over the Fraser Valley Cascades on Sunday afternoon.

The win puts the Heat (5-3-1) in second place in Canada West’s Pacific Division and earned ’keeper Mitch McCaw his fourth consecutive clean sheet. The Heat also beat Trinity Western on the weekend, posting a 1-0 win on Saturday.

Sunday’s scoring got started midway through the first half, with the opening goal netted in the 22nd minute by Sam McDonald with an assist from Nikhil Reddy. Reddy also assisted on the second goal of the match, scored by Hamish Walde. Reddy is now tied for second in Canada West with six assists.

The second half saw the Heat get off three shots to the Cascades’ two, with the only goal coming from Andrei Stalfort in the 84th minute.

Women’s Soccer

On a soggy Saturday evening at MRC Sports Complex, the UBC Okanagan Heat rallied in the second half to earn a 1-1 draw against the University of the Fraser Valley women’s soccer team.

The host Cascades built a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute, but were unable to extend their lead despite numerous chances prior to halftime. That left the door open for the Heat, and they took advantage as Ally Ferronato scored on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute to secure a point for her squad.

The Cascades (4-2-2) sit fourth in the Pacific Division, while the Heat (0-6-2) are eighth.

Up next for the Heat is their annual home-and-home series against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack (1-7-0), with matches scheduled for today (5 p.m.) in Kelowna and Saturday (2 p.m.) in Kamloops.
