3 vehicles, belongings stolen at fitness centres
Police are searching for two suspects following a string of vehicle thefts at local fitness centres on Tuesday.
Kelowna RCMP received a report that personal belongings, including car keys, were stolen from a locker in the women’s change room at Goodlife Fitness, in the 1800 block of Gordon Drive, just after 7:30 a.m.
The victim’s Ford SUV was missing from the parking lot, said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.
Just before 9 a.m., a second victim called police to report that personal belongings, including car keys, were missing from an unlocked locker at the Steve Nash Fitness Centre, in the 1800 block of Cooper Road.
The woman’s car and her wallet and bank cards were taken from the parking lot.
The cards were later used fraudulently at several nearby businesses.
Shortly after 1 p.m., police received a report that car keys for a Hyundai SUV, credit cards and personal identification were stolen from a locker at Mission Fitness, in the 4100 block of Gordon Drive.
At 5:40 p.m., a similar theft was interrupted by a vehicle owner in the 300 block of Hartman Road outside the YMCA.
A woman discovered her gym bag was missing and alerted her boyfriend, who ran to their vehicle in the parking lot and verbally confronted a suspicious woman, said O’Donaghey.
The suspect was described as a black woman in her 20s with curly black hair dyed red, wearing tight jeans and white sneakers.
She left the scene in a tan-coloured SUV with another person, described as a Caucasian woman wearing a baggy T-shirt and a tuque.
Police are looking for three vehicles stolen from fitness centres that day: a 2008 white or beige Ford Escape with B.C. licence plate DS501N, a 2012 black Mini Cooper with B.C. licence plate CM855P and a 2009 grey Hyundai Elantra with B.C. licence plate 744RSE.
