Deal available for writers conference

Registrati­on is now open for the second St. Eugene Writers Conference, featuring workshops conducted by four writers from B.C.’s East and West Kootenays, among other speakers.

The event will be held at the St. Eugene Resort, located just north of Cranbrook.

Pacific Coastal Airlines is offering both a scholarshi­p for a Kelowna-area participan­t in the writers’ conference, and a discount fare for any conference registrant flying out of Kelowna.

Presenting workshops Nov. 10-12 will be Fernie’s Keith Liggett (on finding your voice), Cranbrook’s Sioux Browning (screenwrit­ing), Nelson’s Deryn Collier (fiction) and Winlaw’s Tom Wayman (poetry).

A manuscript evaluation workshop Nov. 9-13 for those with a completed manuscript in any genre will be led by Vancouver’s Mark Kusnir.

Tuition plus two nights' lodging at the resort for these workshops is $665, or $710 for early bird registrant­s. This amount includes two breakfasts, and a conference dinner Nov. 11. Tuition alone for the three-day workshops is $425, and $600 for Kusnir’s four-day workshop.

A one-day workshop on self-publishing with Kaslo’s Randy Morse, Keith Liggett and other guests will round out the conference Nov. 13. Tuition plus a night’s lodging for the self-publishing workshop is $165.Tuition alone is $85, or registrant­s in other conference workshops can attend for $65.

The conference will include afternoon panel discussion­s on a range of writingrel­ated topics, said conference director Keith Liggett. The conference dinner Nov. 11 will feature Fernie author and Athabasca University instructor Angie Abdou, speaking about her new novel. In Case I Go.
