Warm goalie, cool result
Yaremko scores twice as Warm stops 33 shots; Dube replies on power play
Beck Warm made 33 saves and Nolan Yaremko accounted for all the offence as the Tri-City Americans snuck past the Kelowna Rockets by a 2-1 score Tuesday evening in Kennewick, Wash.
The 19-year-old Yaremko put the hosts ahead 1-0 with his first goal of the season coming 10:24 into the first period.
He added to the lead with his second of the night 12:24 into the second period, giving the Americans a two-goal cushion heading into the final 20 minutes of play.
After only outshooting the Ams by a combined mark of 22-21 through 40 minutes of play, the Rockets turned up the pressure in the third period, firing 12 shots in on the Tri-City net while limiting the opponent to a mere three pucks in on goaltender James Porter.
Of the 12 third-period shots from Kelowna, it took a power-play opportunity before veteran Dillon Dube found a hole in Warm, making it a 2-1 contest with only 1:35 to go in regulation.
Still, the Americans were able to fend off the pressing Rockets and lay claim to a sixth victory.
The Americans improved to 6-4 on the season while the Rockets dropped to 4-4-2.
The Rockets are back home on Friday night when they take on the Portland Winterhawks at Prospera Place for the first of two straight between the rival clubs.
Portland (8-1) is the no.1-ranked team in the Canadian Hockey League.
Saturday is Paint the Rink Pink night. The Rockets’ pink jerseys are to be auctioned off for breast cancer research.
