The Okanagan Valley Newspaper Group announced Thursday that James Miller has been promoted to a new expanded role as Valleywide editor and director of content.

In his new role, Miller will be focusing on the complete editorial value chain for OKVNG print readers in the Okanagan Valley, as well as growing an audience through cross-platform content sharing. He will be overseeing the editorial content for The Daily Courier, Penticton Herald, Okanagan Weekend and related print products as well as their websites.

Miller, 52, joined the Penticton Herald in October 2008 as managing editor, coming from the Spruce Grove Examiner and Stony Plain Reporter, where he was editor of two large weeklies in the Edmonton area.

“As editor of the Penticton Herald, James has always done a fantastic job at engaging our readers and our community overall. While we will miss not having James in the office every day, he will still be working closely with our Herald editorial team,” said OKVNG spokesman Ed Kennedy, publisher of the Herald. “He has shown a keen and sincere interest in the community from the first day he arrived in the Okanagan.”

“I’m excited about the new role and I’m particularly looking forward to the incredible talent that’s in the Kelowna Courier’s newsroom,” Miller said. “I look forward to meeting new people in Kelowna and becoming involved with the community.”

During his time in Penticton, Miller has organized and moderated numerous public forums, including all-candidates meetings. He has played a key role in the success of the annual Be an Angel campaign, which last year raised $44,000 for food banks in the South Okanagan.

He regularly volunteered to MC charity events including an event tonight for Grandmothers for Africa.

Miller is a walking encyclopedia of classic rock, in particular The Beatles, an animal lover and avid sports fan.

Miller’s appointment is effective immediately.
