Firefighters’ calendar has a sense of humour

- By BARB AGUIAR

Are you looking for a stocking stuffer that will help the community? The West Kelowna Professional Fire Fighters have released their 2018 calendar and early reviews indicate it is the best one yet.

This will be the third calendar put out by the Firefighters.

Fireman calendars have been around for a while, and in 2014 the West Kelowna Professional Fire Fighters decided to give one a shot as a fundraiser.

This year’s calendar will offer some light-hearted humour as the Firefighters play off on cliches such as rescuing cats from trees.

“We tried to incorporate fun ideas,” said Travis Parro of the West Kelowna Professional Firefighters.

By request, this year’s calendar offers a page or two where a couple of the guys have their shirts off, said Parro.

Each month will have a different theme, including Mother’s Day, back to school and Movember.

Despite some firefighters shying away from the limelight, Parro said they were all good sports about being in the calendar because it’s for a good cause. “Everybody had fun with it,” he said. Money raised from the $10 calendars goes to the West Kelowna Fire Fighters Charitable Society, which supports organizations including the Boys and Girls Club, the Community Recreational Initiatives Society which helps people with disabilities experience outdoor recreation, and the B.C Professional Firefighters Burn Fund.

“The money is put back into the community,” said Parro.

Firefighters will sell calendars this weekend at West Kelowna Save On Foods from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the West Kelowna Warriors home game Nov. 24 starting at 7 p.m., Superstore on Nov. 25-26 and at the West Kelowna Light Up on Brown Road Dec. 1.

Calendars are available at Blenz Coffee, Active Body, Nesters Market, Àre halls on Old Okanagan Highway and Olalla Road and online at westkelownaproÀreÀghters.com.
