Chiefs score weekend sweep over Chase, Sicamous

The Osoyoos Coyotes have surrendere­d more than their share of late leads dating back to last year’s Okanagan-Shuswap Conference championsh­ip series. This time, however, there was a happy ending.

Jackson Barrett scored with 2:02 to go in the first overtime period as the Coyotes edged the Revelstoke Grizzlies 5-4 in KIJHL action Saturday at the Sun Bowl Arena.

Sho Takai had tied the game for the Grizzlies with nine seconds left in regulation.

Sam Reinbolt, Hunter Johnson, Judd Repole and Carter Shannon also scored for the Coyotes, who trailed 2-1 after one period and led 3-2 after two. Connor Onstein tacked on three assists.

Cody Flann also scored twice for Revelstoke (12-4-1-2).

Daniel Paul made 35 saves for the Coyotes and Giovanni Sambrielaz stopped 38 for the Grizzlies.

Steam 5 Posse 2: Everett Scherger logged a goal and two assists as Summerland beat visiting Princeton.

Ethan Glover, Brogan Lautard, Scott Robinson and Riley Smoler also clicked for the Steam, who maintained a seven-point lead over secondplac­e Osoyoos atop the Okanagan Division.

Lane French and Kole Halvorson replied for Princeton.

Matt Huber made 28 saves for the win and Bobby Milligan turned aside 30 for the Posse.

Chiefs 5 Heat 3: Brandon Mongey scored twice and Devin Sutton and Jarin Sutton scored in a 1:06 span with less than six minutes left as Kelowna beat Chase at the Rutland Arena.

Myles Matila also scored for the Chiefs, who had a 48-39 edge in shots on goal.

Pat Brody and Kolten Moore scored for Chase (14-9-0).

FRIDAY — Heat 4 Steam 2: Kaden Black scored twice as Chase doubled visiting Summerland.

Brady and Josh Bourne also clicked, while Glover and Cairo Rogers connected for the Steam.

Conor Webb blocked 25 shots for Chase, while Huber stopped 28 for the Steam.

Chiefs 4 Eagles 2: Jarin Sutton, Devin Sutton, Aidan Bar-Lev-Wise and Juanre Naude scored as Kelowna beat the lowly Eagles in Sicamous.

Brian Bailer and Ty Tippett scored for the Eagles (4-19-1), who were outshot 32-24.

The Steam lead the Okanagan Division with a 16-6 mark, Osoyoos is 12-6-1, Princeton 10-8-1-3, Kelowna 10-7-1-2 and North Okanagan 6-12-1-3.

On Tuesday, the Steam welcome the Chiefs to Summerland Arena in a 7 p.m. puck-drop. Those two teams play again, at Summerland, on Saturday.
