Penticton teen Beamer Wigley opening act for Brett Kissel

Beamer Wigley of Penticton will open for country superstar Brett Kissel on his We Were That Song tour, scheduled to stop at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre on Friday, March 16.

Wigley was selected to open by winning a social media contest where musicians submitted a video performing their favourite Kissel song.

Wigley, 15, previously released an EP, Meteorite. The title song and follow-up single Boombox both received airplay on country radio. His most recent single, What If They’re Wrong, is a duet with his girl-friend Abby Stewart.

The teen has previously opened for the likes of George Canyon and Aaron Pritchett and was a regular for years on the main stage at the Penticton Peach Festival. At age 12, he won the PNE’s junior star search competitio­n.

“I am thrilled to share the stage with Brett,” said Wigley, in a press release. “It’s a great opportunit­y to spread my music and grow my fan base.”

Kissel has won multiple Canadian Country Music Associatio­n awards, most recently the 2016 male artist of the year and fan’s choice. He has also won a Juno Award for breakthrou­gh artist.

Kissel, who hails from Flat Lake, Alta., is best known for singles which include Airwaves, Started With a Song, Raise Your Glass, 3-2-1-, Tough People Do, Something You Just Don’t Forget, Pick Me Up, Cool With That, She’s Desire, and Canadian Kid.

He first drew national attention in 2012 with his single, Hockey, Please Come Back which he wrote and recorded during an NHL players strike.
