Site C deserves premier’s approval
Dear Editor: As an association representing more than 120 companies that build infrastructure projects across B.C., we believe there are many good reasons the Site C project deserves the approval of Premier John Horgan’s government.
This government has committed huge resources to building infrastructure that benefits all British Columbians. In our view, there is no better demonstration of this than Site C. This project is an open-managed site, where companies and workers from across the province are free to work regardless of their labour profile.
Site C provides good-paying, quality jobs for nearly 2,000 workers, which greatly benefit local communities in northeastern B.C. It is also a source of clean, safe and dependable energy for decades to come.
Contrary to much media reporting, local First Nations also see the benefits this project brings their communities, including the Saulteau First Nation, many of whose members work on the project.
We know there are naysayers about Site C, but by approving this project, Horgan can accomplish many worthwhile goals, while saving badly needed resources for the government’s other worthwhile priorities.
We hope the premier will make the right decision and approve Site C for the benefit of all British Columbians. Reighardt van Enter B.C. regional director Progressive Contractors Association of Canada
