Stone the man for Libs’ top job

Dear Editor: Re: Editor’s Notebook by James Miller (Daily Courier, Dec. 4).

I was surprised to read your opinion that Dianne Watts won the leadership debate in Kelowna on Dec. 2.

You also say that 10 different people might give 10 different answers, but that cannot be true as there were only six candidates. However, I get your point, it was hard to pick a winner. Nevertheless, I think few would have picked Dianne Watts.

To me, she appeared very weak in the debate and the Liberal party members want someone who can stand up to John Horgan, not be walked over. I was quite curious to see how she would perform.

I expected she was act as a seasoned politician, be able to make her point and even level a few zingers at her opponents.

Instead, all she had to say was that she has been listening and will continue to listen. That is not a plan. There were no ideas presented, no platform to debate. My dog is a good listener too, but that doesn’t mean he would make a good premier.

There was no substance to her campaign and when she wasn’t speaking she just had a blank look on her face like she couldn’t hear what the others were debating, which is ironic since the only thing she had to say was that she was listening.

I agree they are all good candidates, but it appears to me Todd Stone is the only one who is capable of rising to the occasion and leading the party in the right direction. That is the other half of the question: Where is the leader going to lead the party to?

Todd Stone’s platform represents a free enterprise party that cares about people, while Dianne Watts is a free enterpriser who only cares about free enterprise – and that’s not how British Columbians feel. The last election is proof of that. Richard Barkwill
